After the storm that delayed the race start on the third day of the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup, sun has come up to create the ideal conditions for a spectacular sailing race, in which the 47 yachts reached speeds of up to 25 knots.

By taking line honors and amazingly winning in handicap time on the first day of the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup in Sardinia, Esimit Europa 2 has proven that it is the most serious candidate for this year’s Maxi World Championship title

At today’s official prizegiving ceremony in the Principality of Monaco, Lien Simcic, Godmother of the 100 foot maxi yacht Esimit Europa 2, graciously accepted the trophy for the team's victory in the Palermo–Monte Carlo regatta.

It was another magnificent victory for Europe today when Igor Simcic’s 100 foot maxi yacht Esimit Europa 2, sponsored by Gazprom, was the first to cross the finish line in Monte Carlo, taking line honours in the Palermo-Monte Carlo regatta. The crew onboard Esimit Europa 2 completed the 500 nautical mile course in 2 days 52 minutes, marking the second significant offshore victory for the European team led by Skipper Flavio Favini. Over the last two days, the team faced a full range of unpredictable conditions in this long offshore race but showed their true skills and broke the course record by 3 hours 19 minutes.

Esimit Europa 2 is well on their way towards Monte Carlo, the largest yacht taking part in the 6th annual Palermo–Monte Carlo offshore regatta which started on 18 August.

 

Good start for Esimit Europa 2

Palermo-Monte Carlo is the next race on the schedule for the European giant. The Esimit Europa project was recognized as a symbol of connecting European nations and is endorsed by Borut Pahor, Slovenian Prime Minister, and Dr. Erato Kozakou Marcoullis, Minister of Communications and Works on behalf of the Cyprus government.

At the Mondello bay in Palermo Esimit Europa 2 showed a great performance at inshore race.

Esimit Europa 2’s final preparations are almost complete with just one week remaining until the start of the European team’s second event of the season, the Palermo-Monte Carlo race. Having taken line honours at the Giraglia Rolex Cup in June, Igor Simcic and his professional crew are well prepared for the 500 mile offshore race.

On Cyprus, Igor Simčič, Esimit Europa project General Manager, met with Dr. Erato Kozakou Marcoullis, Minister of Communications and Works.

At today’s official prizegiving in San Remo, Owner Igor Simcic was presented with the Rolex Trophy, Rene Levainville Trophy and the Beppe Croce Trophy for Esimit Europa 2’s success in the Giraglia Rolex Cup.

 Esimit Europa 2 has taken line honours in the Giraglia Race having magestically crossed the finish line in San Remo at 1105 this morning.  Owner Igor Simcic and his European crew onboard the 100 foot, canting keel maxi completed the 241 nautical mile course in just over 23 hours.

The 220 Giraglia Rolex Cup race participants left for San Remo today at 12.00 CEST, with a south-easterly wind of 8 to 10 knots. Jethou, the 18 m Mini Maxi of Peter Ogden was the first boat to round the offset-mark off Port Grimaud as the fleet set out on the 241-mile Giraglia Race in direction of the Island La Fourmique, before heading to the Giraglia Rock off Corsica.

Following on from the Race Committee’s prudent decision to cancel racing due to the inclimate weather today, the crew of Esimit Europa 2 spent the time undertaking their final preparations for the 241 nautical mile race that lies ahead.

With 19 knots of wind, the conditions were ideal for Esimit Europa 2 (EUR) on the team’s second day of racing during the inshore portion of the Giralglia Rolex Cup.  The bright blue, 100 foot maxi flying the European flag is the largest yacht competing and towers over the fleet of 221 boats.

The Esimit Europa 2 yacht has been introduced to the global audience at its christening ceremony, which was attended by major business leaders and project supporters. The 30-meter long and 44-meter high giant is the fastest yacht in the world. Under the patronage of Jose Manuel Barroso.

The christening of Esimit Europa 2 is approaching fast and the yacht launch in Cannes is only a little more than two weeks away. After it was announced that Vasilij Zbogar, one of the most successful Slovenian sailors, will join the crew, Flavio Favini, the Italian sailing star, also confirmed his participation.

Three weeks ahead of the official launch of the Esimit Europa 2 sailing boat, which will compete in this year's largest European sailboat races under the flag of the European Union, it was revealed that its crew will include Vasilij Zbogar, one of the most successful Slovenian sailors.
