After shipment from Valencia to Rostock, the 30-meter European flagged yacht has arrived close to Kiel, where it will perform at two races within the Kieler Woche. On top of that a new partnership will be announced during the official press conference on the 24th June at the Kieler Yacht Club.
“We are looking forward to finally present the Esimit Europa project – the Esimit Europa 2 yacht, Esimit Sailing Team and its partners – to sailing fans in Germany”, says Jochen Schümann, skipper of Esimit Europa 2. The German sailing legend, triple Olympic champion will together with an 18 member crew participate at the Welcome Race (Kiel – Eckernfoerde) on the 22nd June and the return race on the next day. He excitedly expects the premiere race with Esimit Europa 2 at the Kieler Woche: »The first participation at the races of Kieler Woche with the Esimit Sailing Team is something very special for me. Being part of a European team coming from 10 different countries, for me as German is a real motivation to present the best of ourselves and the yacht in front of the German audience”, added Schümann.
Since its christening in June 2010, the Esimit Europa 2 won all the attended races and set 5 course records. This year is for the first time taking part at races in the North and Baltic Sea region. Kieler Woche is only 2013 season opener. The crew is going to enter further races with the ÅF Offshore Race in Sweden, Cowes Week and legendary Rolex Fastnet Race in the UK before returning to the Mediterranean Sea.
