In ocassion of the 119th Kieler Woche, one of the biggest sailing events in the world, four children with disabilities got the opportunity to set sail with Esimit Europa 2 and experience Europe's fastest racing yacht in her element.
The internationally assembled crew led by skipper Jochen Schümann together with the Drachensee Foundation organized the event in the afternoon of 21st June 2013. The Drachensee Foundation is Kiel based social institution for people with disabilities. With its facilities, actions and services the foundation wants to support particpation, self-determination and equality of people with disabillites and thereby follows the main idea of inclusion.
»Sports and exercise are an important component to abolish barriers between people with and without disabilities. People with disabilities deserve the same admission to sports programs as people without disabilities«, says Klaus Teske from the management board of the Drachensee Foundation. »We are very pleased that the Esimit Sailing Team sets an admirable example by sharing our message at this year's Kieler Woche,« added Teske.
The idea of participation and equality is also shared and promoted by the Esimit Europa project – as a matter of fact, the whole project is about being successful by working together in the same direction. Igor Simčič, founder of the Esimit Europa project, explains: »The vision that we pursue with Esimit Europa 2 is the idea of a collaborative European society. Together we are most effective anywhere on land, on water, in politics, within the econmic system and last but not least also in abolishing social frontiers. To this effect we appreciate and support the work of the Drachensee Foundation.«
