With elapsed time of 2 hours and 8 minutes at Kieler Woche’s Welcome Race Esimit Europa 2 once again proved to be the fastest sailing yacht in Europe. 28 nautical mile race between cities of Kiel and Eckernförde in Germany was spiced with truly testing wind conditions for the Esimit Sailing Team, reaching speeds of more than 25 knots. Esimit Europa 2’s skipper Jochen Schümann was pleased with yacht’s and crew’s performance: “It was a very exciting race for me and I am happy to see that all modifications we have made since the end of the last season and new sails work well in practice. From the racing point of view we haven’t made any mistakes. We have performed a very clean start, although we had to avoid big cruising ship close to the start line, and continue with good jibing in the Kiel fjord. After passing it, we set our minds into setting a new monohull record and I am glad we have made it. The record will probably stay for a very long time. Return race tomorrow is in front of us and I hope we will repeat today’s success.”
