The Congress Palace at Stazione Marittima building in Trieste (Italy) hosted the prize giving ceremony of the Barcolana regatta – the world’s largest single start sailing race. 45th edition of the race, held on the 13 October, once again lived up to its reputation and attracted almost 1,600 yachts of all sizes. Present at the prize giving ceremony in the heart of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region were crew members, many distinguished guests and high representatives from the local, regional and state authorities.
Roberto Cosolini, mayor of Trieste, and Vincenzo Spina, president of the Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano yacht club, awarded Esimit Sailing Team with the President of the Republic Trophy, the Barcolana Trophy for the line honour victory and the trophy for winning in the super maxi sailing class.
This year’s Barcolana represented the shortest edition of the race in its history, since demanding weather conditions with light winds and occasional dead calms forced the jury to move the finish line to the second buoy. The Esimit Sailing Team used all their valuable experiences in sailing in similar conditions and crossed the finish line first with the elapsed time of 2 hours and 16 minutes. With this success the Esimit Europa 2 yacht concluded the 2013 racing season, achieving nine consecutive line honour victories – the Rolex Fastnet Race (UK) being the season’s highlight. Moreover, it set the course record at season’s opening race at the Kieler Woche (GER). Since its christening in 2010, Esimit Europa 2 has all together attended 28 regattas and took line honours at all of them, while also setting 6 course records.
