Prestigious honour for Esimit Europa 2 skipper Jochen Schümann

Esimit Europa 2 skipper Jochen Schümann has received the most important sports award in Germany - the Golden Sports Pyramid for his sporting and professional achievements along with his community involvement. Federal Minister of the Interior Thomas de Maizière presented this prestigious award to Jochen Schümann yesterday evening at a charity gala in Berlin. (on the photo)

Among previous winners of The Golden Sports Pyramid, which is presented to only one sporting personality each year since year 2000, are illustrious names like Franz Beckenbauer and Steffi Graf.  At the same time Jochen Schümann was inducted into the "Hall of Fame of German sport ".

 

 

Jochen Schümann's career highlights:

·          3  x  Olympic gold medalist: 1976 in the Finn Class, 1988 and 1996 in the Soling Class

·          Olympic silver medal in 2000 in the Soling Class

·          4 x  World Champion: 1992 and 1998 in the Soling Class, 2001 and 2004 in the 5.5 Class

·          9 x  European Champion (1x the Finn Class and 8 x the Soling Class)

·          2 x Winner of the America 's Cup in 2003 and 2007 with Team Alinghi


Notable awards:

·          World Sailor of the Year (1996)

·          German Sailor of the Year (1992, 1996 , 2003, 2004)

·          Inclusion in the Sailing World Hall of Fame (2003)
