After its 30th consecutive win at the Giraglia Rolex Cup, the Esimit Europa 2, one of world’s fastest and technologically most advanced yachts, has returned to the Adriatic Sea, to its base port in Muggia, to prepare for the unique mixture of diplomatic, business and sports activities scheduled in the autumn of this year’s racing season.

The second part of the racing season will begin in the Adriatic Sea in September, with a coastal challenge  that takes place in Izola, Slovenia - the Diplomatic regatta, at which diplomats are invited to take part on board of the racing yachts. Year 2014 marks the 12th edition of this unique race, the honorary sponsor of which is the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia. It is organized by the sailing club “Veter” and the Organization Committee of the race consists of members of the Diplomatic Corps. For Esimit Europa 2, 2014 marks the second consecutive participation at this unique happening in Slovenian waters.

Next on the schedule will be an offshore race in the Adriatic - the Thousand Islands Race, which connects two ports in two countries – Rijeka in Croatia, with its historic harbour, and Tivat in Montenegro, with Porto Montenegro.. In the course of 277 nautical miles in each direction, the attending yachts have to navigate among more than a thousand islands in the Adriatic Sea. The inaugural edition of this race, organized by the Sailing Club of Rijeka and the Porto Montenegro Yacht Club, was held in 2013, while for Esimit Europa 2, this will be its premiere participation at this race, as well as in Croatia and in Montenegro. Since 2012, Esimit Europa project has gained the official support of dr. Vesna Pusić, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Croatia, and has already been a partner of one of the country’s biggest regattas – Fiumanka, upon the invitation of the Mayor of Rijeka Vojko Obersnel, all of which has resulted in the decision of the management of Esimit Europa 2 yacht to take part in this exciting offshore race in the Adriatic in the season of 2014.

In October, two traditional races for Esimit Europa 2 will follow in the Gulf of Trieste – first the Bernetti Lombardini Cup, known for its tricky conditions, unpredictable winds and shallow waters, therefore a demanding preliminary race for the Barcolana regatta, which is scheduled one week later. The organizer, Società Nautica Pietas Julia, will present the 43rd edition of the race in 2014.

The highlight of the season in the Adriatic Sea – Barcolana regatta - the largest single start regatta in the Mediterranean, organized by the Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano, will follow on the second Sunday of October. Esimit Europa 2 won line honours at all the races it has  attended and is the current course record holder. At this year’s 46th edition of the Barcolana regatta, the Esimit Europa project enters into a partnership with the organizers to propose a “Barcolana Challenge - Medot Trophy”– a special introductory race, organized in a friendly and sporting spirit of this historic race for all 13 category winners from the previous edition of Barcolana, who will be invited to compete against each other on monotype ESTE 24 boats. The regatta will be accompanied by a week-long program based on sports, entertainment and cultural activities, faithful to its renowned festive atmosphere that attracts thousands of visitors.

Immediately after Barcolana, the Esimit Sailing Team will set sails towards Valletta, with the aim of improving the record for the passage between Trieste and Valletta for the Medot Sailing Trophy. The challenge is not only joining the two cities, Trieste and Valletta and the two yacht clubs, the Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano and the Royal Malta Yacht Club, but also the two renowned regattas, Barcolana and Rolex Middle Sea Race. In 2012, Esimit Europa 2 set the benchmark for the approximately 700 nautical miles long passage between Trieste (Italy) and Valletta (Malta) – open to all classes and recognized by the World Sailing Speed Record Council. The time to beat is 68 hours, 42 minutes and 24 seconds. By establishing this challenge, more yacht should be inspired to take part in connecting the two races in the Mediterranean.

The last challenge of the season awaits the Esimit Sailing Team upon arrival in Valetta with the highly rated offshore classic, one of the most picturesque races in the Mediterranean, the 35th edition of the Rolex Middle Sea Race, organized by the Royal Malta Yacht Club in association with the Royal Ocean Racing Club. The start of the race takes place in the Marsamxett Harbour in Malta, yachts then head for a traditional counterclockwise turn around Sicily, towards the Strait of Messina, rounding the active volcano Stromboli, the Egadi Islands, Pantelleria and Lampedusa, with the finish in Malta’s capital Valletta.  Esimit Europa 2 has taken line honour victories in the years 2010 – 2012, while in the racing season 2013 this race was abandoned just a few days before the start because the yacht’s mast broke on the way to Malta.
