During the record attempt between Trieste and Valletta for the Medot Sailing Trophy, that started on October 13 at 12:13:25 pm, the Esimit Europa 2 faced technical issues that prevented it from concluding the challenge. On October 15 at approximately 01:45 am, when the yacht was just north of Brindisi, the crew noticed an irregularity in one of the spreaders. The Esimit Sailing Team could not continue sailing and was forced to use the engine. Therefore they had to abandon the record attempt.
Next on schedule is the 2014 edition of the Rolex Middle Sea Race starting from Malta on Saturday, October 18. The team is now putting all the effort into the necessary repairs to make sure that the yacht is ready in time for the start.
