Today the Congress Centre in the Stazione Marittima building in Italian City of Trieste hosted the prize giving ceremony of the Barcolana Regatta's 46th edition, which was attended by crew members, many distinguished guests and high representatives from the local, regional and state authorities.
The Prefect of Trieste, Francesca Adelaide Garufi, awarded Igor Simčič, founder of the Esimit Europa project, with the President of the Republic Trophy for the overall winner. Igor Simčič also received the Barcolana Trophy for the overall winner and the trophy for winning in the super maxi sailing class.
This year, Esimit Europa 2 achieved its fifth consecutive victory at the Barcolana Regatta in a dramatic finish with four other sailboats after 2 hours, 38 minutes and 38 seconds of sailing over a shortened course of just four nautical miles, since very light wind forced the Race Committee to move the finish line to the first buoy.
Since its christening in 2010, Esimit Europa 2 has all together attended 35 regattas and took line honours at all of them.
