Today at 13:35 with the starting signal of this year’s offshore Volcano race, the European flagged maxi Esimit Europa 2 kicks off its racing season of 2015. The fleet sets sail on this offshore race covering some 400 nautical miles across the Tyrrhenian Sea to the Aeolian Islands with its famous volcanic archipelago.
The Esimit Europa project is building bridges between the worlds of sport, business, diplomacy, social responsibility and culture. Fulfilling its mission the Esimit Sailing Team welcomed the EBC European Business Congress Working Group Energy onboard as part of the program of one of their regular sessions that was held in the fascinating environment of the historic coastal city of Lerici near the famous Italian natural resort Cinque Terre.
The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia Dr Miro Cerar received Igor Simčič, founder of the Esimit Europa project, symbolised by one of the fastest and most technologically advanced racing yachts in the world, Esimit Europa 2.
The President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia Dr. Milan Brglez received Igor Simčič, founder of the Esimit Europa project and granted him a special letter of support to this unique project that is connecting worlds of sport, business and diplomacy for already 20 years.
The Secretary-General of the United Nations, H.E. Mr. Ban Ki-moon, received Igor Simčič, founder of the Esimit Europa project on the official meeting at the UN headquarters in New York as a sign of recognition of endeavours of the project that has been connecting nations, countries and people in pursuit of common success for 20 years already.
In the jubilee racing season of 2015 Esimit Europa 2 will again be spreading the message of collaboration at some of the classic races in the Mediterranean and conclude it with a gala event dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Esimit Europa project. The gala will be organized at the premises of the Yacht Club de Monaco, which is the home yacht club of the European flagged maxi.
During a two-day visit of the President of the Federal Republic of Germany Joachim Gauck to the Republic of Slovenia, Slovenian President Borut Pahor hosted a gala dinner in his honour. President Pahor invited guests from the fields of business, diplomacy and culture that have ties with Germany. Igor Simčič, founder of the Esimit Europa project, who is connecting diplomacy, business and sports in a unique way since 1995, was also invited to this event.
The Prefect of Trieste, Francesca Adelaide Garufi, awarded Igor Simčič, founder of the Esimit Europa project, with the President of the Republic Trophy for the overall winner. Igor Simčič also received the Barcolana Trophy for the overall winner and the trophy for winning in the super maxi sailing class.
At 22:47:05 Esimit Eropa 2 crossed the finish line in front of the Royal Malta Yacht Club in Valletta as the first yacht in the fleet for the Rolex Middle Sea Race. Esimit Europa 2 is the first yacht in history to take line honours victory, in this Mediterranean classic, for the fourth time. It took the European flagged 100 foot Maxi, with a crew composed of 11 nationalites onboard, 3 days, 10 hours, 42 minutes and 5 seconds to complete the 608 nautical miles course from Malta around Sicily.
