Exactly two months after its christening in Cannes and following three magnificent wins in the Giraglia Rolex Cup, racing between St. Tropez and San Remo, the Esimit Europa 2 yacht is ready for another feat. On Wednesday, 18 August 2010, it will set sail for a 500-mile race between Palermo and the finish line in Monte Carlo. However, the road to a new victory will be anything but easy. The crew will have to compete against 26 excellent Maxi class yachts and the unpredictable conditions of the Tyrrhenian Sea.
The race is organized by the Circolo della Vela Sicilia in collaboration with the Yacht Club de Monaco, and this year marks the 6th edition of this race. The Esimit Europa 2 team expects another great show by one of the fastest yachts in the world. “This year’s second race is an opportunity to test our boat’s capabilities in conditions that are different from the ones we faced in the Giraglia race. We are still learning as a team and each race is a new opportunity to get right all the details required to achieve world-class results,” said Igor Simcic, the yacht owner and Esimit Europa project General Manager.
“I am glad that the three wins in the Giraglia Rolex Cup made it clear to the global audience that nothing is left to chance and that representing the colors of Europe is a great honor and a great responsibility at the same time. I am honored that in the past month the project’s values were endorsed by Borut Pahor, the Prime Minister of Slovenia, and Dr. Erato Kozakou Marcoullis, Minister of Communications and Works, who expressed the support on behalf of the Cyprus government.
The yacht is expected to arrive in Monaco on 20 August. It can be tracked in real time online at http://www.re-wind.it/palermomontecarlo/. The award ceremony for the fastest yachts will take place on Monday, 23 August, in the prestigious Yacht Club de Monaco.
