Races 2013

One of the largest single start sailing races in the world is the Barcolana regatta. Every season it takes place on the second Sunday in October in the Gulf of Trieste and on the two southern turns sails into the Slovenian sea. It has a long lasting tradition, which began in 1969 with 51 boats competing for what nowadays became a prestigious trophy. The uniqueness of the race shows in enabling sailing enthusiasts to compete against professional racing teams. As the Esimit Europa project started by blurring the borders between Italy and Slovenia in 1995, Barcolana has a special meaning to the bordering countries. Also the devoted attention of hundreds of thousands of spectators has for the past four years been on Esimit Europa 2, which set the course record on the 16,8 nautical mile long course in 2010, also took line honours in 2011 and 2012. In 2013, the route of the course changed to a shorter, 13,2 nautical mile route, extending the distance between first and second mark and placing the third mark further offshore. Esimit Europa 2 took line honours in 2 hours and 16 minutes of sailing in light winds.
