TRIESTE - VALLETTA RECORD ATTEMPT
[13. October]

A challenge that is not only joining two cities, Trieste and Valletta, two yacht clubs, the Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano and the Royal Malta Yacht Club, both of which greatly contribute in organizational aspects, but also two renowned regattas, the Barcolana and the Rolex Middle Sea Race. Esimit Europa 2, one of the world’s fastest yachts, established the benchmark for the approximately 700 nautical miles long passage between Trieste (Italy) and Valletta (Malta) - open to all classes and recognized by the World Sailing Speed Record Council. Time to beat is 68 hours and 42 minutes and 24 seconds. For future Monoholls breaking this passage record in the period between Barcolana and the Rolex Middle Sea Race, last season a new trophy has been introduced to the world of competitive sailing, the Medot Sailing Trophy. By establishing this challenge, happening between the two regattas, more yacht should be inspired to take part in connecting the two races in the Mediterranean.

NOTE: In the early hours of 17. October the Esimit Sailing Team decided to abandon the record attempt due to technical issues which did not allow Esimit Europa 2 to conclude the challenge. Read more
