Races 2013

Rolex Middle Sea Race
[19. – 26. October]

The final challenge for the Esimit Sailing Team in 2013 sailing season was scheduled to be the Rolex Middle Sea Race, organized by the Royal Malta Yacht Club. Race is a 606-nautical mile offshore race, where the yachts participating sail anti-clockwise around Sicily. The race is recognized as one of the most picturesque races in the Mediterranean. Last year the recording number of 83 entrants started in the Marsamxett Harbour in Malta, heading towards the Strait of Messina, rounding the active volcano Stromboli, the Egadi Islands, Pantelleria and Lampedusa, with the finish in the Malta’s capital Valletta. Esimit Europa 2 was after 85 hours, 33 minutes and 15 seconds of sailing in tactically challenging conditions the first yacht to cross the finish line. By this the Esimit Sailing Team crowned the 2012 sailing season with yet another brilliant success, and become only the second yacht in the history of the Rolex Middle Sea Race to take the line honours three times in a row.

NOTE: On their way to Malta during the Trieste – Valletta Record Attempt the Esimit Sailing Team decided to abandon the record attempt due to technical issues. Given that the yacht was still far from reaching Malta, there was not enough time for repairs in time for the start of the Rolex Middle Sea Race. The Esimit Europa 2 yacht has therefore withdrawn its participation from 2013 edition of the race. Read more
